Wadesboro is a town located in Anson County, North Carolina. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 3,552. It is the county seat of Anson CountyTemplate:GR.

Wadesboro is located at 34°58'5" North, 80°4'17" West (34.968096, -80.071488)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²). 7.7 km² (3.0 mi²) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 3,552 people, 1,393 households, and 930 families residing in the town. The population density is 461.8/km² (1,194.2/mi²). There are 1,585 housing units at an average density of 206.1/km² (532.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 41.69% White, 56.36% African American, 0.39% Native American, 0.45% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.70% from other races, and 0.37% from two or more races. 1.30% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 1,393 households out of which 30.4% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.7% are married couples living together, 27.1% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 30.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 13.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.42 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the town the population is spread out with 27.1% under the age of 18, 8.2% from 18 to 24, 25.2% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 18.9% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 75.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 70.2 males.

The median income for a household in the town is $23,302, and the median income for a family is $29,514. Males have a median income of $25,043 versus $20,774 for females. The per capita income for the town is $14,500. 25.2% of the population and 23.0% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 33.2% of those under the age of 18 and 20.3% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
