Cincinnati Country Day School

Template:Cleanup-school Cincinnati Country Day School (abbreviated "CCDS") is a private school located at the highest point of Indian Hill, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. It is not affiliated with any religion. Inspired by the Country Day School movement which began in Baltimore twenty years prior, the school was founded in 1926 and now enrolls approximately 1,000 students from preschool through high school. All students in 5th grade or above are equipped with laptop computers as part of the "Anytime Anywhere Learning" program.

The nickname of CCDS sports teams is the "Indians"—this name has caused some controversy but the school has repeatedly elected not to change it for historical reasons.

History

In 1997, CCDS became one of the first schools in the United States to equip its students with laptop computers, aided by partnerships with Microsoft and Toshiba. Every student in grades 5-12 owns a laptop computer for use both at home and at school. Since 2000, the entire campus has been covered by an 802.11b wireless network using hardware by Cisco Systems.

In 2001, the school sued the producers of Steven Soderbergh's Academy Award-winning film Traffic for unauthorized use of the name of the school. The suit was settled out of court for an undisclosed sum, as well as the removal of the school's name from any re-releases of the film, including DVD and VHS versions.

In 2002, CCDS published a book, entitled "... and Five Miles Farther", detailing the first 75 years of its history.

In 2003, the CCDS Lower School received the Blue Ribbon School Award from the United States Department of Education.

In 2003, CCDS was designated a Microsoft Center of Excellence.

Students

Each graduating class is comprised of approximately 75 students. Total enrollment in the school, from pre-school through high school, is about 1000.

Noted alumni

Other supporters of the school include Carl Lindner, businessman and principal owner of the Cincinnati Reds, American Financial Group, and Chiquita Brands International.
