Dwight Township is a township in Huron County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2000 census, the township had a total population of 930.
The village of Kinde is located on the boundary between Dwight Township and Lincoln Township, with about half of the village in both. A small portion of the village is within Meade Township.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 92.5 km² (35.7 mi²). 92.4 km² (35.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.1 km² (0.04 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.06% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 930 people, 354 households, and 248 families residing in the township. The population density is 10.1/km² (26.1/mi²). There are 402 housing units at an average density of 4.4/km² (11.3/mi²). The racial makeup of the township is 98.60% White, 0.11% African American, 0.65% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.00% from other races, and 0.32% from two or more races. 0.11% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 354 households out of which 33.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 56.8% are married couples living together, 7.9% have a female householder with no husband present, and 29.9% are non-families. 27.1% of all households are made up of individuals and 15.8% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.61 and the average family size is 3.15.
In the township the population is spread out with 27.4% under the age of 18, 8.0% from 18 to 24, 26.9% from 25 to 44, 20.8% from 45 to 64, and 17.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 37 years. For every 100 females there are 103.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 99.1 males.
