Makaveli: The Don Killuminati: 7 Day Theory was the final album recorded before Tupac Shakur's death. The album was recorded in August of 1996, and these are among the very last songs he recorded before his fatal shooting on September 7th. Makaveli (http://www.thugz-network.com/) is a very dark and intense album, and it contains some of Shakur's most passionate and poetic work. Although it was released almost 2 months after his death, on November 5 1996, it is not a true posthumous album in the way that the later Shakur albums are, since he finished the production himself. Some believe that since Tupac did the production, and some composition, that it is one of the most authentic albums he ever released.
While All Eyez on Me was a classic g-funk album, Makaveli (http://www.thugz-network.com/) is a much darker work. Shakur's style of rapping is emotional as always, but is intensified on this album. Upon its release, it would debut #1 on the Billboard charts and go on to sell over 5 million copies. The album was made in just 7 days, although the vocals were written and recorded in only 3. One of his most well known and liked songs on the album, "Hail Mary", was written and recorded in 30 minutes.
For a number of reasons, this album has fueled Tupac conspiracy theories to no end. For instance, in the first few seconds of the first track, it sounds as if someone is saying "Suge shot me" in the background. If you rearrange the letters of the album, you come up with the sentence "OK on tha 7th u think I'm dead, yet I'm really alive" making people believe that Tupac faked his own death.
