Convention on Biological Diversity

The Convention on Biological Diversity is an international treaty that was adopted at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992 . The Convention has three main goals:
conservation of biological diversity (or biodiversity );
sustainable use of its components; and
fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources.
It is often seen as the key document regarding sustainable development .
Opened for signature - June 5 , 1992
Entered into force - December 29 , 1993
Objective - to develop national strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity
