Mountlake Terrace is a city located in Snohomish County, Washington. As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 20,362.

Mountlake Terrace was officially incorporated on November 30, 1954.

Mountlake Terrace is located at 47°47'27" North, 122°18'24" West (47.790969, -122.306636)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.7 km² (4.2 mi²). 10.5 km² (4.0 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.65 percent water.

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 20,362 people, 7,962 households, and 5,016 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,946.0/km² (5,036.7/mi²). There are 8,217 housing units at an average density of 785.3/km² (2,032.6/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 77.7 percent white, 2.52 percent black, 1.08 percent Native American, 10.64 percent Asian, 0.58 percent Pacific Islander, 2.61 percent from other races, and 4.87 percent from two or more races. 5.65 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 7,962 households out of which 32.8 percent have children under the age of 18 living with them, 46.2 percent are married couples living together, 11.8 percent have a female householder with no husband present, and 37 percent are non-families. 26.2 percent of all households are made up of individuals and 6.4 percent have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.54 and the average family size is 3.11.

In the city the population is spread out with 25.3 percent under the age of 18, 9.8 percent from 18 to 24, 35.6 percent from 25 to 44, 20.2 percent from 45 to 64, and 9.2 percent who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 34 years. For every 100 females there are 98 males; for every 100 female age 18 and over, there are 95.6 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $47,238, and the median income for a family is $52,117. Males have a median income of $37,421 versus $28,796 for females. The per capita income for the city is $21,566. Eight percent of the population and 5.8 percent of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 11.3 percent of those under the age of 18 and 7.6 percent of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.
