Plantation is a city located in Broward County, Florida.

Plantation is located at 26°7'28" North, 80°14'58" West (26.124354, -80.249503)Template:GR.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 56.8 km² (21.9 mi²). 56.3 km² (21.7 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 0.87% water.

The city's official motto is; "The Grass is Greener".

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there are 82,934 people, 33,244 households, and 22,206 families residing in the city. The population density is 1,472.9/km² (3,815.2/mi²). There are 34,999 housing units at an average density of 621.6/km² (1,610.0/mi²). The racial makeup of the city is 78.34% White, 13.78% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.88% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 2.00% from other races, and 2.79% from two or more races. 13.09% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There are 33,244 households out of which 30.9% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.0% are married couples living together, 11.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 33.2% are non-families. 25.8% of all households are made up of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.48 and the average family size is 3.02.

In the city the population is spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 32.0% from 25 to 44, 24.7% from 45 to 64, and 13.1% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 90.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 86.2 males.

The median income for a household in the city is $53,746, and the median income for a family is $65,029. Males have a median income of $44,838 versus $32,360 for females. The per capita income for the city is $28,250. 6.4% of the population and 4.3% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 6.1% of those under the age of 18 and 6.7% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

Plantation was once the home of Oklahoma city bomber Timothy McVeigh.
